Family-Friendly San Antonio Montessori School Serving Windcrest

Implementing Montessori San Antonio 3

Our San Antonio Montessori school offers Windcrest families a different path for their children’s education from infancy through elementary years. At Country Day Montessori, children learn by doing rather than by listening passively. Our students work with specially designed materials that make abstract ideas concrete and understandable. Teachers observe each child carefully, offering guidance when needed but allowing children the satisfaction of figuring things out on their own. This approach builds true understanding, not just memorization of facts. Windcrest parents choose us because their children become active, engaged learners who take ownership of their education and develop the skills needed for success in school and beyond.

Our Programs include:

Infant Care (Newborn - 18 months)

Our infant care program provides a nurturing start for babies as young as 3 months. In our peaceful infant rooms, caregivers respond warmly to each baby’s needs while creating opportunities for sensory exploration and motor development. Infants follow their own natural rhythms for eating, sleeping, and play in an environment designed specifically for their safety and growth.

Pre-Primary (18 months - 3 years)

Our Pre-Primary program honors toddlers’ growing need for independence and movement. Children practice caring for themselves and their environment through simple, purposeful activities like washing hands, pouring water, and putting away materials. They develop language, coordination, and social skills while exploring a world designed just for them, building confidence with each new accomplishment.

Primary (3 - 6 years)

The Primary program builds on children’s natural curiosity with activities that develop early literacy, mathematical understanding, and knowledge of the world. Using specialized Montessori materials, children learn to read, write, count, and calculate while exploring geography, science, art, and music. This rich, integrated curriculum allows each child to progress at their own pace while developing concentration, coordination, and independence.

Lower Elementary (Grades 1-3)

Our Lower Elementary program expands children’s horizons with deeper exploration of language, mathematics, science, history, and geography. Students work both independently and collaboratively on research projects, creative writing, and complex problem-solving. They develop study skills, time management, and social responsibility while building strong academic foundations and following their special interests.

Upper Elementary (Grades 4-6)

The Upper Elementary program prepares students for secondary education with challenging academics and increasing responsibility. Students tackle complex concepts, lead community service initiatives, and develop critical thinking through debate and discussion. They learn to manage long-term projects, conduct original research, and present their findings, gaining skills that will serve them well in any future educational setting.

Summer Program

Our summer program offers a balance of learning and fun during school breaks. Children enjoy special themes, outdoor activities, art projects, and field trips while maintaining academic skills. The program follows Montessori principles in a relaxed summer atmosphere, allowing children to explore new interests while enjoying the company of friends in a familiar, supportive environment.

What Makes Montessori Special for Your Child

Learning by Doing

At Country Day Montessori, children don’t just read about concepts—they experience them. In our Windcrest area school, students grasp math with hands-on beads and blocks, explore geography with puzzle maps, and learn biology by caring for plants and animals. This interactive approach deepens understanding beyond memorization. Many Windcrest parents are amazed at how naturally their children master reading, writing, and math simply because learning comes alive in our classrooms.

Growing Independence

Children are capable of more than they’re often given credit for. In our classrooms, even young students choose their work, care for materials, and solve problems independently. Teachers guide rather than do tasks for them, allowing children to prepare snacks, clean up spills, and maintain their environment. This responsibility builds confidence and life skills that benefit them at school and home—leaving many Windcrest families surprised by their child’s independence.

Testimonials

Our daughter was shy and hesitant when she started at Country Day Montessori. After just a few months, she’s become so much more confident and independent. She proudly shows us the classroom works she’s mastered and talks non-stop about the goats and chickens. Moving to Windcrest and finding this school was the best decision we could have made for her education.

Windcrest Parent

As a teacher myself in a traditional school, I was amazed at the difference in learning environment at Country Day. The respect shown to children, the beautiful materials, and the peaceful atmosphere create something truly special. My son has flourished here in ways I couldn’t have imagined. He’s reading above grade level and has developed a genuine love for mathematics.

Current Parent

We’ve had three children go through Country Day Montessori from Primary through Upper Elementary. Each had very different personalities and learning styles, yet the school somehow managed to meet each one exactly where they were. They’re all thriving in their respective middle and high schools now, and we credit their Montessori foundation for their academic success and their confident, compassionate approach to life.

Our core Montessori program runs during mid-day hours, with before and after-school care available for families who need extended hours. Many parents appreciate that their children can remain in the same nurturing environment throughout the day.

Do Windcrest children need any special preparation before starting Montessori?

No special preparation is needed. Children naturally adapt to our environment, regardless of their previous experiences. Our teachers are skilled at introducing new students to the Montessori classroom and helping them adjust at their own pace. For children coming from Windcrest who haven’t been in a school setting before, we recommend short visits before their first full day to help them become comfortable with the new surroundings.

How do you communicate with parents about their child's progress?

We believe in strong school-home partnerships. Teachers provide regular updates through progress reports, parent-teacher conferences twice yearly, and informal conversations at pick-up and drop-off times. Many Windcrest families appreciate our parent education events where they learn more about Montessori methods and how to support their child’s development at home. We also use a secure communication app to share classroom updates and photos.

What extracurricular activities do you offer for Windcrest students?

Beyond our core Montessori curriculum, we offer several special programs including motor development classes, art, and music. Our children also engage in gardening, animal care, and nature studies as part of our regular program. These activities enrich our academic program and help children from Windcrest develop well-rounded skills and interests.

How do you handle safety and security at your school?

Safety is our top priority. Our campus has secure entry systems, and all visitors must check in at the office. Staff members are trained in emergency procedures, and we practice regular safety drills with students. We follow strict protocols for student pick-up, requiring proper identification for anyone collecting a child who isn’t their parent. Our spacious grounds are fully fenced, and children are always supervised when outdoors. Many Windcrest parents tell us they chose our school partly because of the sense of security they feel when their children are in our care.

Yes, our graduates transition successfully to a variety of educational settings. Students who complete our Upper Elementary program develop strong academic skills, study habits, and social abilities that prepare them well for traditional middle schools. They learn to manage their time, organize their work, and take responsibility for their learning – skills that are valuable in any school environment. We’ve had many Windcrest area students go on to excel in public, private, and charter middle schools after graduating from Country Day Montessori.
