Pre-Primary Montessori Program at Country Day Montessori

Helping Your Little One Grow, Learn, and Thrive

“We must help children from the very beginning. We must give them the right environment because they have to adapt themselves to a strange new world.” – Maria Montessori
Welcome to Country Day Montessori’s Pre-Primary Program! If you have a little one between 18 months, basically infants, and 3 years old, you know this is an amazing time of growth and discovery. Your toddler is learning new words every day, becoming more independent, and exploring everything around them with wonder and curiosity.

Why Choose Montessori for Your Toddler?

San Antonio Montessori School in Shavano Park

Toddlers are at an incredible stage of development. During these years, your child is:

  • Picking up new words and phrases rapidly
  • Wanting to do more things on their own
  • Developing better control of their movements
  • Beginning to notice and interact with other children
  • Learning to focus and concentrate for longer periods

Our early childhood education embraces these natural developments by creating a space where your child can safely explore and build confidence. Unlike traditional daycare, we focus on your child’s individual growth while providing the guidance they need to thrive.

A Day in Our Toddler Classroom

We follow a consistent daily schedule that gives children the security of routine while allowing plenty of time for exploration.
Here’s what a typical day looks like:

Morning Drop-Off (7:30-8:30 AM)

Your child will be greeted warmly by their teachers. We encourage little ones to carry their own belongings to their cubby – a small but important step toward independence!

Morning Circle (8:30-8:45 AM)

Children gather for songs, counting, and to talk about the day ahead. Each child gets a special moment to participate, helping them feel part of our community.

Morning Snack (8:45-9:00 AM)

Children practice good manners and independence during snack time. They learn to wait until everyone is ready, and clean up after themselves when finished.

Morning Work Time (9:00-10:15 AM)

Children choose from various Montessori materials designed just for toddlers. They work independently or in small groups, learning to select activities, use materials properly, and put them back when finished.

Special Activities

Throughout the week, children enjoy:

  • Art projects
  • Movement and motor skills development
  • Music and dancing
  • Nature exploration

Outdoor Play (10:15-11:45 AM)

Children enjoy fresh air and physical activity on our beautiful 4.5-acre campus. They explore nature, develop physical skills, and make friends. Potty breaks and diaper changes happen during this time too.

Lunch (11:45 AM-12:30 PM)

Children practice opening their own lunch containers and cleaning up afterward – small steps toward independence that build confidence.

Rest Time (12:30-2:00 PM)

A peaceful time for napping or quiet activities, based on each child’s needs.

Afternoon Activities and Pick-Up (2:00-5:30 PM)

More time for learning activities, outdoor play, and preparing to go home or transition to after-care.

Our Caring, Experienced Teachers

Infant Daycare in Longhorn | Country Day Montessori

Our classroom has a teacher-to-student ratio of 2:16, which is better than the standard requirement of 1:11. This means your child gets plenty of individual attention while also having opportunities to make friends and be part of a community.

Our Montessori-trained teachers have specialized teacher education that helps them understand how toddlers grow and learn. They use a proven teaching method to create an environment that supports your child’s natural curiosity while providing guidance when needed. Think of them as gentle guides on your child’s journey to independence.

Our Learning Environment

Infant Daycare in Longhorn | Country Day Montessori

Maria Montessori believed in creating a “prepared environment” where children can explore safely and independently. Our toddler classroom features:

  • Furniture and equipment sized just right for toddlers
  • Low, accessible shelves with carefully chosen materials
  • Natural materials that engage all the senses
  • Areas for movement, quiet work, and group activities
  • Practical life stations where children learn everyday skills
  • Language-rich materials to build vocabulary
  • Sensory activities to develop the senses

Gentle Approach in Toilet Learning

Learning to use the toilet is an important milestone for toddlers. Our approach is gentle, consistent, and follows your child’s lead. Rather than rigid “training,” we see this as a natural process that happens when a child is physically and emotionally ready.

Our teachers work closely with you to ensure a consistent approach between home and school. We provide regular opportunities throughout the day, use proper terms, and celebrate successes without creating pressure or stress.

Supporting Your Family

We know the toddler years can be both exciting and challenging for families. Our program offers:

  • Regular updates about your child’s day and development
  • Parent education sessions to help you understand Montessori and toddler development
  • Guidance on creating consistency between home and school
  • Support during transitions, such as separation anxiety or toilet learning
  • Resources for bringing Montessori principles into your home

Common Questions About Our Toddler Program

How does toilet learning work in your program?

We take a gentle approach that follows your child’s lead. We work with you to support your child’s readiness and confidence. We provide consistent opportunities, use proper terminology, and never force or shame children during this natural process.

What should my child bring each day?

Your toddler should bring a backpack with a change of clothes, diapers if needed, a lunch box with healthy foods, a water bottle, and any comfort items for naptime. We recommend clothes and shoes that are easy for your child to manage—this builds independence!

How do you handle separation anxiety?

It’s perfectly normal for toddlers to feel anxious when separating from parents. We work with each family to create a consistent goodbye routine, provide comfort and reassurance, and keep you informed about how your child is adjusting. Most children settle quickly once parents leave, and we’re always happy to give you updates.

How will I know what my child did during the day?

We provide regular updates about your child’s day, including meals, rest, toileting, and special activities. We also schedule parent conferences to discuss your child’s progress and goals.

What makes your toddler program different from regular daycare?

Our Montessori approach focuses on helping your child become independent, develop concentration, improve coordination, and understand order through specially designed materials and activities. Children learn at their own pace with guidance from trained teachers who understand toddler development. The emphasis is on learning through discovery rather than direct instruction.

Can my child do Montessori at home?

Yes! You can create a Montessori-friendly home by encouraging independence, providing hands-on learning experiences, limiting screen time, and fostering a love for reading and exploration.
