Welcome to Country Day Montessori’s Infant Program, where children from 6 weeks through 18 months are welcomed into a thoughtfully prepared environment designed around the way infants grow, move, explore, and learn.
At Country Day Montessori, we believe the earliest years deserve more than a place to spend the day. Infants need room to move, meaningful experiences, responsive care, and relationships with adults who know them well. Our San Antonio infant classroom brings all of these pieces together in a calm, purposeful setting where children can develop at their own pace.
A Classroom Designed for Infants.
Every part of our infant classroom has a purpose. Natural light, soft music, comfortable spaces for movement, and carefully selected Montessori materials create an environment that feels peaceful without limiting exploration.
For our youngest crawlers and early walkers, we remove our shoes before entering the classroom and use cushioned mats that provide a comfortable surface for tummy time, crawling, pulling up, and those exciting first steps. An indoor climbing structure gives children opportunities to practice balance, coordination, and physical confidence as their abilities develop.
Throughout the classroom, infants encounter materials that invite them to reach, grasp, transfer, manipulate, and discover. These experiences strengthen fine and gross motor skills while allowing children to explore cause and effect and build an early understanding of how their world works.
As children grow, the environment grows with them. A child-sized table and appropriately scaled materials begin to introduce the foundations of independence, giving children opportunities to participate in simple routines and discover what they are capable of doing.
Infant Curriculum
A Day Designed for Discovery
Our infant curriculum follows the natural rhythms of infancy, with feeding, rest, movement, exploration, and connection woven throughout the day. Our educators observe each child and adapt experiences to their individual needs and development.
Montessori materials encourage infants to reach, grasp, transfer, and explore, while tummy time, crawling, climbing, pulling up, and early walking build coordination and confidence. Feeding, diapering, naps, cuddles, and conversation are meaningful parts of the day, too.
Our infants also have their own fenced outdoor space, created especially for their stage of development. Weather permitting, they can feel the grass, enjoy the Texas sunshine, explore a small climbing structure, discover their voices in an echo tunnel, and enjoy simple opportunities for movement and imagination.
When the season allows, infants also experience our garden alongside their older classmates — feeling the soil, smelling herbs, tasting when appropriate, and watching plants grow.
From the classroom shelves to the garden outside, each experience gives infants opportunities to explore their world, build new skills, and begin developing Purposeful Independence.

You know your child better than anyone. We value that knowledge and keep communication with families at the heart of our infant program.
Families share their child’s routines, preferences, and changing needs with our educators so we can provide care that feels consistent and familiar. We keep families informed about their child’s day and make space for ongoing conversations as they grow.
